Half-blind // New Warrior
NAME
Clan/Status:
Windclan/Warrior
Age:
37 moons
Gender:
Male
Appearance:
Tawnystripe has a small, sleek frame that cannot brag burly muscles or thick fur. His pelt is short with a pattern of darker and lighter grey drawn in uneven lines and spots across it. His chest and chin, as well as his left front paw, are devoid of this coloration, and rather are marked by a large patch of white. In height, he resembles that of an apprentice, rarely finding a cat that he does not have to look up at in order to make eye contact. His eyes are slightly discolored from each other, the right eye being a lighter shade of blue-green than the other. This is not produced by heterochromia, but rather by a blindness in his left eye that was brought about through a birth defect. His left eye is clouded to this effect. Tawnystripe's tail is long, easily the length of his pelt and a half.
Personality:
Ambitious // Optimistic \\ Detached
"Ambition is the predecessor to success"
His determination unhindered - and perhaps a bit amplified - by his disability, Tawnystripe has a burning desire for grandeur in his standing within the clans. It took him longer than most cats to move from apprentice to warrior due to obvious circumstances, but the extended time period only gave him a greater need to make up for lost time. The warrior is far from laid-back; he's more often found doing his duties than he is sleeping in the dens. He wants to become the best contributor to his surroundings as he can be, and the fulfillment of that desire leaves little room for ineptitude in any area. Tawnystripe can be quite the opportunist, accepting any task asked of him regardless of any circumstance. However, he often overburdens himself because of this trait, and he rarely considers how his actions and seize-the-moment nature may make him look in the eyes of his clanmates.
"If you don't look at the bright side, you'll lose your way in the dark"
Tawnystripe grew up being told that he had a serious disability that would hinder his progress in life - quite the prospect for a young kit or apprentice struggling to perform tasks that cats moons younger could do in their sleep. The tom cat had been through multiple stages: grief, giving up, needing pity, begging others for help, using his disability as a crutch; however, he found that such outlooks gave him nothing but sadness and made him nothing but an invalid nuisance. With his ambitious nature blossoming around the middle of his life as an apprentice, he became disgusted with himself. He refused to become the hindrance of the clan that he dreamed of possessing status in. The apprentice forced himself to alter his views on his life, making himself think positively until it gradually became less of a struggle and more of a habit. Unable to stop at merely his own life, Tawnystripe applied his newly-found optimism to the rest of the world. Now, unless there is a grim line of determination on his mouth, it is rare to find him without a warm smile and something joyful to say.
"Be for the world, not of it"
Neither his ambitious nature nor his optimism could ever completely uproot Tawnystripe's natural caution of attachment. Having been a whining, pathetic cat during his kit- and a good portion of his apprenticehood made it difficult for him to make friends that didn't get fed-up with him. This self-wrought isolation was what he grew up with, and he often finds it a difficult experience to overcome. His social skills are not the most fine-tuned, although he will make an honest effort to make conversation if one is started with him. He will very rarely start a conversation of his own accord, and often sticks to well-practiced formalities.
History:
Tawnystripe was the only kit in his litter, and subsequently was the only kit that his parents had to pin their hopes and dreams on. It was a massive blow to them when their kit opened his eyes, and still only had half the vision he should have been allowed. However, they continued to love him unconditionally, and strove to aid him in every way they could. They encouraged him through his difficult times, comforted him through his weak times, and laughed with him through his best times. Both attended his warrior ceremony, an event that occurred when he turned 35 moons, and were able to witness the fulfillment of his hard-work - living proof that he was strong enough to overcome his disability and make them more proud than an entire litter of healthy warriors.
